Ghent Volunteer Fire Company No.1, Inc. is 100% staffed by unpaid volunteers who live and/or work in our community.  We come from all walks of life and backgrounds.

Every member is a committed first responder and/or support personnel.  Our primary responsibilities include:

​

• Rescuing and protecting fire and accident victims

• Searching for the lost or endangered

• Containment of hazardous situations

• Teaching fire safety to citizens of all ages

 

“The Courage To Act”

 

We stand ready to serve, 24 hours a day, every day.  We will give our best and we will not be deterred.  Our courage comes from the knowledge, skills, and teamwork acquired in the classroom and from our leaders.  We know the work is hard but we train hard to make sure that everyone goes home at the end of the day.

Our capability is the result of our continuous education and recurrent training.  We study the science of fire, new building construction methods & materials, and updated firefighting / rescue tactics.  We research and prepare actions plans to protect our community against hazardous incidents.  Our inter-department drills strengthen our efficiency when mutual aid is needed.
